Tarmac ripping

A cacocphony of clattering disturbed me as I sipped my Sunday-morning latte. An excavator with some sort of "tarmac ripper" attachment had arrived ourside and was excavating a section of road...

The attachment responsible for both the noise and the destruction of tarmac is made by a company called Simex and is applied flush to the section of road. It is then activated and reduces the surface to debris.

Internally it consists of rather nasty-looking teeth fitted to a rotating drum.

Once the excavator had moved along, a road sweeper sucked-up the debirs leaving a neat recess in the road.

A lorry conveying tarmac has now arrived but the associated workmen have scarpered.
